Third wave of the Covid-19 epidemic spreading in Ethiopia

The Ministry of Health has announced that the third wave of the Covid-19 epidemic in Ethiopia has been spreading rapidly over the past eight weeks. Mebrat Masebo, Covid-19 response coordinator at the Ministry of Health, told Addis Zemen newspaper: The third wave of the Covid-19 epidemic has been spreading rapidly for the past eight weeks.

The epidemic has been declining, especially since the first weeks of July, but has since re-emerged in August, with more than 600 people undergoing intensive care, he said. According to Mebratu, the number of people tested positive for the virus has reached 20 percent in a single day. Up to 2,000 people are diagnosed with the virus in a single day, he said.

He noted that there may be a large number of people who are infected, who do not show symptoms, who have not been tested, and given the limited capacity to diagnose, the number of people infected daily may be even higher.
