State Department spokesman Ned Price told reporters that the United States' focus is on ending the war in Ethiopia.
According to Ned Prans, the best way to end the ongoing human rights abuses, abuses and suffering in the conflict in northern Ethiopia is to find a way to end the war.
He said the United States is pursuing a strong diplomacy in this regard.
"We are pursuing strong diplomacy. The telephone conversation at the leadership level was part of this. Ambassador Feltman and the current Special Envoy, Ambassador Starfield, are deeply involved in this. We are working closely with former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo," he said.
In a statement to reporters, Spras noted that US President Joe Biden had the opportunity to speak with Dr. Abiy Ahmed. He said the speech was part of diplomacy.
"We believe the current situation provides an opportunity for the parties to the conflict to show good faith," Deutsche Welle reported, citing a ceasefire.
