The 2021 GC is over and the new year 2022 has begun since yesterday. By 2021, 45 journalists had been killed worldwide. The International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) says the number of journalists killed in 2021 is one of the lowest ever.
Afghanistan is the deadliest country in the world, with nine journalists killed, Mexico recorded next with eight killed, four in India, and three in Pakistan. The Asia-Pacific region, which includes Afghanistan, has the highest number of homicides.
Moreover,10 were recorded in the United States, 8 in Africa,6 in Europe, and 1 in the Middle East and the Arab world. It is remembered the deaths of two journalists in a "tragic accident" in Iran.
