Health experts are arguing the public to protect themselves from covid-19 cough suppressants. Experts say that demand for cough syrups has increased in pharmacies following the expansion of Covid-19.
Alert Hospital Pharmacy Director Yonas Asheber told EPD that many people are taking cough suppresses from pharmacies without a doctor's advice due to the spread of cholera and flu.
He said that this practice could lead to the development of comorbidities and should be avoided. Especially in urban areas, many people who claim to have the flu are taking the flu shot without a doctor's advice," he said.
He said taking the same medication without expert advice is especially dangerous for people with dementia, diabetes, asthma and other related illnesses.
He said similar drugs are not sold in pharmacies in government hospitals without a doctor's prescription.
How ever private pharmacies, however, he explained that there was a practice of selling the drug to anyone who requested it.
He also said that people should take precautionary measures only if they show flu symptoms, knowing that they may be at risk for serious health problems. Otherwise, they are more likely to develop serious health problems, he said.
